The key to our Wi-Fi is the key, more or less complicated, which prevents unauthorized users to connect to our router to surf the Internet at our expense. Most routers usually come with a pseudo-random password supplied by default and printed under the router so that only we can connect to it. However, there are many applications for Android and iOS designed to try to find these passwords using either dictionary as brute force, so it is not difficult if we have not changed the password to something more secure, someone has learned and you are connecting to our Wi-Fi, with all the dangers that entailed.
There are no special applications to change the password for the Wi-Fi, as each brand and model are unique and work in different ways. Therefore, the universal way to change the Wi-Fi key is to do it through the web administration panel of our correspondent router. Then we are going to explain how to do this from our smartphone, both Android, and iOS.
The first, find out the gateway of your router from Android
To enter the router configuration we must do it directly from your IP address. The most known and used in most home routers 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1 IPs are, however, this may not be our case and our router has a different IP.
Therefore, the first thing to do is find out the IP of your router to your mobile phone. There are several ways to get the IP of our router, but in the following manual, we explain how we can do easily for Android.
Access the IP router from the web browser on your mobile
Once we have the gateway, or IP, our router, the following is accessible from the web browser on your router in order to enter the configuration section of our router. To do this, open the browser you want, for example, Google Chrome, and paste in the bar that IP addresses.
After a moment load, we can see how the router configuration menu appears on your phone.
We should note that, barring some last modern generation routers and high-end, most do not have responsive interfaces, so in order to comfortably navigate through all the menus have to zoom expanding the screen with two fingers.
Here, the following will log on to the configuration of our router. For that, we need the username and password of your router. This data should come in the instruction manual, stuck on a sticker on the bottom or should habérnoslos facilitated our operator.
The most common of which are:
Once we start meeting, we can already see the configuration interface of our router. Each is different, and it is impossible to cover them all. In our catches we will use the F680 Jazztel router, but, broadly speaking, the process should be similar in all other models.
In our particular router to change the key Wi-Fi must go to the section “Network> WLAN> Security” and there, we can see the following.
The password is listed in section “passphrase”. If we change this value will change the password of our Wi-Fi. However, before doing so, we can use to check the optimal security settings, this being always recommended WPA2 AES encrypted.
If your router is dual band and has also Wi-Fi 5Ghz, we must also change the password for that network.
Once we set these parameters, we apply the changes and ready. The router will reboot (or, at least, restart the wireless connectivity modules) and, after several seconds, we will have our Wi-Fi with the new configuration.
Finally, we must clear the Wi-Fi network of our mobile and reconnect with the new password
Android and iOS keep keys Wi-Fi networks within devices that do not have to enter them each time you want to connect back to them. Therefore, if we change the password on your router, your mobile phone will keep trying to connect using the password we had before, so we’ll authentication errors.
To avoid these mistakes, we must do is move to the Settings menu to connect to a new Wi-Fi network, select ours and from there, we click on “forget” to delete this network device.
Once deleted network can connect to it again using, this time, the new password
