Samsung is reportedly working on a small version of the Galaxy S8 . First rumors point to a stripped-down device with 5.3-inch display. Would Samsung want to cannibalize its own products?
Now reports indicate that the Samsung is working on a Galaxy S8 mini. A release is only to be held in South Korea.
Galaxy S8 Mini: Small S8 with weaker hardware
After the incredible success of the Galaxy S8 it could soon be another S-device with Infinity Display. According to reports, the Galaxy S8 Mini has a display with a diagonal of 5.3 inches. However, due to the aspect ratio of 18.5 to 9, it is significantly smaller and reminds more of a device with a 4.7-inch diagonal. If the S8 is clearly too big, the small version could be happy.
Among the currently ported specifications -is a Snapdragon 821 with the Adreno 530 as a graphics unit. In the S8 and S8 Plus a Snapdragon 835 is used in the US and China version – units are sold with an Exynos 8895 in Europe.
The Snapdragon 821 is supposed to support 4 GB of memory as well as an internal capacity of 32 GB. The S8 also has 4 GB RAM installed, but comes on 64 GB flash memory. Also an iris scanner is to be installed in the S8 mini, as well as the 12-MP camera, which we already know from the S8.
Price and release still unknown
If and when the Galaxy S8 Mini comes on the market,it is still completely unclear. Also for the price there is no information. According to reports, this publication is currently only in South Korea, Samsung’s home market. The company could therefore speculate on customers who like the look of the Galaxy S8, but do not want to pay flagship prices.
