Apple is reportedly working on a dedicated chip for artificial intelligence.
Reports Says that Apple is working on dedicated hardware for artificial intelligence and augmented reality. The chip is internally referred to as a “Neural Engine” and is to take on future iPhones work of CPU and GPU.
So far, Apple distributed the appropriate tasks both to the respective A-Series chip in the iPhone and iPad as well as the integrated GPU. In the future, a dedicated chip will be responsible for the increasingly important areas artificial intelligence and augmented reality. Internal sources have reported for the first time from this hardware, which Apple is currently under the name “Neural Engine” develop. Specifically, not only Siri and the voice recognition of such a chip should benefit, in future also the 3D face recognition, which is rumored in the iPhone 8 is made possible over this chip.
This should not only increase the performance, but also the battery runtime to come good and Apple in the two essential future technologies artificial intelligence and Augmented Reality again make more competitive. Most recently, Qualcomm, Nvidia and Google have made strong progress in these areas. Whether the “Neural Engine” is already finished this year and will be found in Apple products, is currently not sure, however, Apple may turn to the developer conference WWDC in June more betrayed.
