Android 8.0 Oreo is already present in 0.2% of Android devices

A new version of Android arrived recently, and that means it’s time for Android 8.0 Oreo to appear in the Android distribution data. After a year of Android Nougat has not managed to pass 17.8% of devices present, it is time to welcome the latest operating system from Google.

Google Play Protect is now active on all Android devices

According to the developer page of the Google Platform, the latest and best version of the company’s mobile operating system has taken more than a month to reach a staggering 0.2 percent. For now, the devices compatible with Android 8.0 Oreo are the Google Pixel and some Nexus models, so we do not expect this figure to grow too much in the following months.

Google released Android 8.0 Oreo for Nexus and Pixel devices at the end of August. To be fair, the company’s new Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL phones, to be shipped with Android 8.1, have not yet been announced so in two months this figure may grow slightly. It should be noted that, as with previous updates, the latest major version of Android usually takes more than a year to become the most used version, and the story of Oreo probably will not be different, see what has happened with android Nougat.

Changes between August and September

Here is the evolution of the various versions of the Google operating system in the last 30 days:

Android 8.0 Oreo (August 2017): 0.2 percent
Android 7.0 / 7.1 Nougat (August 2016): Up 2.0 points to 17.8 percent
Android 6.0 Marshmallow (October 2015): Low 0.2 points to 32.0 percent
Android 5.0 / 5.1 Lollipop (November 2014, March 2015): Low 1.1 points to 27.7 percent
Android 4.4 KitKat (October 2013): Low 0.6 points to 14.5 percent
Android 4.1 / 4.2 / 4.3 Jelly Bean (July 2012, November 2012 and July 2013): Low 0.3 points to 6.6 percent
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (December 2011): Remains at 0, 6 percent

Android 2.3 Gingerbread (December 2010): It remains at 0.6 percent

The Google Platform Versions tool uses data collected from the Google Play Store app, which requires Android 2.2 or higher. This means that devices running earlier versions are not included, or devices that do not have Google Play installed (like many Android phones and tablets in China, the Amazon Fireline, etc.). In addition, Android versions that have an adoption of less than 0.1%, such as Android 3.0 Honeycomb and Android 2.2 Froyo, are not listed.

At the moment Marshmallow remains first, followed by Lollipop and Android Nougat, who remains in third place, KitKat is fourth, Jelly Bean is fifth, and Android 8.0 Oreo, for the moment, remains in the last place.
